Amazon Prepping Three, Possibly Four Kindle Fire 2 Tablets?

It looks like Amazon is stacking up ammunition (almost literally) to take on Google and the rest of the tech world in the grand ol’ Tablet Wars. According to CNET, there may be not one, not two, but three — and maybe even four — new Kindle Fire 2 devices on the horizon.
Apparently, an analyst at NPD DisplaySearch by the name of Richard Shim has some insider connections deep within the “supply chain” and he suggests the following devices will soon be hitting the production line:
- 7-inch Kindle Fire 2:1024×600 display, no camera; August production.
- 7-inch Kindle Fire 2: 1280×800 display with camera; August production.
- 7-inch Kindle Fire 2: 1280×800 display with camera and 4G; September production.
- 8.9-inch Kindle Fire 2: With 1920×1200 display; Q4 production.
What about a 10-incher, you ask? Well, if you take any stock in Mr. Shim’s guesstimates, it doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing one of these any time soon. Furthermore, this thing isn’t necessarily set in stone yet, either. Because the supply chain is dynamic — based on orders received from brands like Amazon and Apple — the status can change from month to month. “These are supply chain indications. This is what we are seeing right now,” Shim said.
If there is any truth to this, we may already be looking at stiff competition for the upcoming Nexus 7. 4g capabilities and a 1920×1200 display resolution (higher than the N7) would definitely be a bit of an upgrade, but we’re wondering what the price tags will look like.
There’s no solid word on which processor will be chosen to get the job done for these rumored devices, but it looks like the front-runners could either be the TI OMAP or the NVIDIA Tegra 3 chipsets. All of that is still up in the air though, so make sure to check back soon. We’ll let you know as more details roll out.
