Android 4.1.2 OTA goes live for the Google Nexus 7 tablet

Earlier this afternoon, Google announced that it would begin rolling out Android 4.1.2 to its Nexus 7 tablet. Shortly after, users across the Internet reported the update notifications were already hitting their device. Aside from being a performance enhancing update and the squashing of a few bugs, we also get support for landscape mode on the homescreen — something you could already have done by simply installing Apex Launcher, but it’s nice to see it officially added.
This OTA is rolling out to users on stock, non-rooted devices. I tried to load it on my Nexus 7 running the update I posted about (JRO03s) a few days back and it wouldn’t install, so it looks like I’ll have to wait until the devs get a flashable zip that’s compatible with my setup, or I’ll have to use the toolkit and roll back to bare stock factory setting. I’ll probably just wait though, considering how fast the Android development community works.
If you were hoping for Android 4.2, it looks like you’re going to have to wait just a bit longer. With the news last night basically confirming a Nexus device from LG exists, we probably won’t find anything official about the next version until the phone is officially announced.
Nexus 7 owners, has Android 4.1.2 OTA hit your tablet yet? If not, Here’s the download link right from Google. If you already have it installed, how are you liking the new homescreen rotation features? Sound off in the thread below and let us know.
