Android camera, without the phone

Nikon Android camera

Nikon has plans to announce a new camera, based on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), expected to be dubbed the Coolpix S800, and with specs that should to amount to:

  • 25-250 mm lens
  • 3.5″ OLED screen
  • All Google Play apps compatable
  • Built-in GPS
  • Built-in Wi-Fi

A possible announcement with further details could go down on 8/22/2012, so mark your calendars, set your alarms, or even set up a Google+ event if your interested.

Even if it’s Gingerbread, I say this is a long time coming. Hopefully we can get our hands on a review unit once they are available.

Involved with Android since the Cupcake days, Taji (B.K.A. Screw Muggz in G+ circles) is a developer and Android obsessed fanatic. If not somewhere deep in code or flashing a new ROM, he likes to shame owners of lesser devices for their poor choice of purchase. Highly elusive, but you can catch him on Google+ or track his latest known movements on Twitter.

No rumors on the camera sensor? Obviously being a Coolpix it isn’t going to compete with their DSLRs, but I’m curious nonetheless.

Hopefully more info will be out soon as I’m certainly interested.
