Android Tablet Wars Heat Up as Sony Plans to Launch Two New Devices Next Month

s1 s2 04262011As the tablet wars continue, Sony has decided to stock up on some ammunition of their own. Word on the street is, they plan to launch two exciting new Android devices next month.

The first being the so-far codenamed S2, which will drop under the name of the Sony Tablet P and is a dual 5.5-inch screened clamshell. This baby weighs in at a mind-blowing 370 grams, less than the iPad 2′s 601 grams, but more than say, a Kyrocera Echo at 193g – 512Mb of RAM, 4GB of storage and a 2GB SD card, with connectivity over 4G or WiFi. Both the Tablet P and the Tablet S will share NVIDIA Tegra 2 processors and 0.3MP (not 3.0MP as we’d previously reported) front cameras, but the more conventional, WiFi-only Tablet S weighs in at 600g, has 1GB of RAM and will be available in 16GB or 32GB versions.

There isn’t any official word on the exact price or release date of either of these devices, but apparently retailers have received word to expect more info soon. We’ll be sure to keep you up to date!
