Android Tablets Are Beating Back iPads

the new ipad vs android tablets

Android tablets have caught up to the iPad in market penetration. A survey done by Frank N. Magid Associates for the Online Publishers Association has found 52% of tablet owners have iPads, 51% have Android tablets. If you do the math the figures dont add up because some users have both types of tablets.

Just to illustrate how far Android tablets have come in such a short amount of time, a year ago 72% of tablet owners has iPads, while only 32% had Android tabs, based on the research firms findings.

The study, entitled “A Portrait of Today’s Tablet User – Wave II”, gives percentages of of Tablet users as well as dominant activities performed while using the tab. The online survey included users from ages 8 – 64, and projects tablet penetration to reach 47% this year, thats 117.4 million users.

The iPad 2 is the most common tablet in use, holding 31% of tab owners. Next up is the Kindle Fire, blazing with 28% of all tab users. Followed by the the first gen iPad at 22%, with the Galaxy Tab bringing up the rear claiming 13% of tablet users.

The satisfaction rate is slightly higher for iPads, only by 5%. 90% of Android tab owners were found to be satisfied with their device with iPad owners at 95%.

What cant be ignored here is the dropping percentage of iPad market penetration. This is the proof of the continuing and ongoing Android invasion….march on Android Army, march on!

Involved with Android since the Cupcake days, Taji (B.K.A. Screw Muggz in G+ circles) is a developer and Android obsessed fanatic. If not somewhere deep in code or flashing a new ROM, he likes to shame owners of lesser devices for their poor choice of purchase. Highly elusive, but you can catch him on Google+ or track his latest known movements on Twitter.
