We all remember the days of school field trips and how much fun we all had. Well, Google has come up with a great application to bring us all back to our childhood “Field Trip”.

NianticLabs@Google has taken GPS location service to the next level, they are making you aware of all things Historic, and making you aware of the best places to eat, shop and have fun.

On a recent trip I took to Savannah, Georgia I found this app to be very useful, but a little bit of a battery hog. I was willing to forgo the battery issue seeing that I was in a city filled with history, I wanted to learn about everything that I could.

So, let’s get into it and talk about how great this app really is. First things first, options are available to choose when you are setting up the app. The most important one is going to be how often you want field trip to notify you of nearby historic sites, shopping or dining. This can be changed at any time after setup. Remember what I said early on about the battery life? This is where you can somewhat control it.

Notifications that you receive will be saved for later viewing. Another very neat feature is the option to thumb up or down if you like the pieces provided. A picture is also given to accompany the information. Sharing is available to all of your favorite social networks including Google+, FaceBook, LinkedIn and many others.

Before your next trip head over to the Play Store and grab a copy of “Field Trip” and enjoy.

I have been a Droid addict since I got my first OG Droid (Motorola A855), it took me about 3 months to root and I was hooked. I now have multiple devices and each one of them supplies me with my daily dose of Android love. Outside of Android I also love reef aquariums and I am a workaholic to support my family and three beautiful girls and would do anything for them and love that they are always interested in daddy's Android toys.
