App Review: Word Lens Brings Offline Language Translation to Your Android Phone

Word Lens has been very successful on IOS for quite some time and it is finally available for your Android phone. The app was actually released at the end of June. What makes this app so fascinating is the ease of use and the possibilities you have to put it to use.

The way the app works is you just hold your phone up to the text, a sign or print you want to translate and it will display the translated text on your phone. It uses your cell phone camera to read the specified text and there is no network connection needed which is very handy when you are travelling outside of the country and you don’t want to pay those high data roaming fees.

You can also have the app reverse the words you see through the camera or even erase words. These two options are available in the demo version of the app for free and recognize words in English, Spanish and Italian. This way you can experience the technology behind the app before you decide to purchase it.

There are two versions of the app, a demo version and a paid version for $4.99 and you can purchase additional language packs as an in-app purchase. Each additional language pack will set you back $4.99.

I tried the demo version and it is amazing how the app can just erase words or reverse the letters of a word. I know, based on my experience with the demo version, I will definitely purchase this app for my next vacation.
