ASUS Confirms Original Transformer TF101 and Slider SL1 will get Updated to Jelly Bean

Staying true to a quality that makes it one of the biggest competitors in the tablet manufacturer industry, ASUS has reportedly confirmed that the original Transformer (TF101) and Slider (SL1) tablets will receive updates to Android 4.1, or as us Android nerds like to call it, Jelly Bean.

Apparently, this confirmation was given to PocketDroid from ASUS Germany. The site had originally reported the the devices would not get updated, but an unnamed ASUS official replied by telling them that, not only will the TF201/TF300/TF700 tablets be getting Jelly Bean, but “according to their current information, TF101 and SL101 users will enjoy Android 4.1 upgrade too”.

Of course, no time frame was given for any of the devices listed above, but considering how quickly ASUS rolled out Ice Cream Sandwich to the TF101 (I know because I’m a proud Transformer owner), I’d be shocked if September arrives before an official OTA update.

Unfortunately, there isn’t even a custom 4.1 ROM available for the Transformer yet, but we’ve already heard that Team EOs is working on a plethora of devices, including the OG TF101, so it’s probably safe to assume we’ll at least be seeing some nightly builds from them in the very near future.

I’ll be checking the forum threads often. As soon as I find something worth flashing or we hear word about the official update from ASUS, I’ll let you know.

Long-term driver/OS support is why Asus and Google products will win over other Android devices. For the same reason, Thinkpad/Lenova is my only choice for laptops.

Tell that to anyone who bought an Asus laptop with hybrid sli right before optimus came out. my laptop never got a driver update. ever.

Why? If the VGA/Tech vendor doesn’t release any updates, there is nothing ASUS can do? In ASUS/Android, ASUS have more control over the hardware and OS as a whole, Google releases (open source) updates to their OS line, and then ASUS modified it for their hardware. No so much with PC/Laptop where ASUS had no control over what OS and which Driver you use.
