Check out ex Dialer, a free MIUI style dialer for any Android phone

Heads up, customization fans! Many of our readers are familiar with MIUI, one of the most popular custom ROM projects in the Android ecosystem. Those of you who have rooted your phones and have flashed one of these ROMs before know that they’re one of the best non-AOSP (Android Open Source Project, otherwise known as stock Android) offerings available, and one of the only major projects with a following that can be compared to that of the almighty CyanogenMod series. Unfortunately, MIUI isn’t compatible with every Android phone out there, so there are more than a few of you who haven’t been graced with the experience, and you’re probably feeling a little left out.

Many of our readers have taken the plunge, and have already rooted their Android device. These days, non-rooted phones (even tablets) are becoming a thing of the past, but that doesn’t mean they’ve completely faded away just yet. We understand that there’s still a good amount of you out there that haven’t rooted your phones, for whatever reason, and we also get it that you don’t want to be left out when it comes to all the fun and excitement that comes along with customizing your device.

This is where ex Dialer comes into play. That is, of course, if you’re looking for an awesome replacement for your boring old stock Dialer. While, I’ll be the first to admit the app’s name could stand a bit of a facelift, the app itself is one of epic proportions. For starters, this MIUI-styled dialer replacement from Modoohut is lightweight, in terms of download size, as it’s just shy of 600k. This means it won’t eat up much of your storage space, even on those budget-friendly phones with lower storage capacities. Also, the UI is smooth and user-friendly, so you won’t find yourself stumbling in the dark, trying to figure out how to use it.

ex Dialer also features a T9-supported contacts and calls filtering system, so you can easily navigate to your most often contacted folks. After all, who wants to spend more than a second digging through their contacts list, as crowded as they’re beginning to get these days, right?

Now, you’re probably wondering, “What’s with all the MIUI talk at the beginning of this post?” As I briefly mentioned, ex Dialer is an MIUI-styled application, so it gives users who haven’t been able to try an MIUI ROM a chance to experience some of the UI and functionality they have to offer. Of course, you might just be like me too — I’m stuck on CyanogenMod — maybe you just want a little taste of MIUI without having to switch from whatever your current ROM might be. Whatever the case, you won’t need to change anything in your system setup to run this app.
