Featured ROM: Frosty JB M2 now out for the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S III

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve had the pleasure of testing a Jelly Bean-based custom ROM project headed up by my good friend and XDA Senior Member, djintrigue808, otherwise known by Chris Toler — and yes, he’s a real-life DJ.

Chris has been using the various leaked Android 4.1 updates for the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S III to build what he has been calling, “Frosty JB”, and the results haven’t been anything less than amazing.

Last night, Milestone 2 of the Frosty JB series was unleashed on the d2tmo (that’s the codename for the TMOUS SGSIII, for those unaware) Android Development forum, over on XDA.

Of all of the builds I’ve tested yet, this one looks to be as close to the real deal as we’ve seen yet. I’ve been using it since about midnight CST last night, and I’ve yet to come across any bugs.

The battery life is solid, the performance is as buttery as can be, and the UI has been modified to better suit the black and blue Holo color schematics of Jelly Bean.

The ROM features Awesome Beats, a mod designed specifically for the audiophiles out there who need a little extra bass in their life. It also has been modded to include the Camera and Gallery application from the Samsung Galaxy Note II. Take my word for it if you haven’t already seen the Gallery in action — it’s the bomb.com!

If you’d like to give this a try, remember it is ONLY for the T-Mobile Galaxy S III, and you’ll need to be rooted and running a custom recovery (I use TWRP, personally).

Remember to read all of the instructions carefully before doing anything on your device — don’t come crying to us if you brick your shit. We’ll just laugh at you and tell you to learn how to read instructions.

Frosty JB can be obtained by heading over to the original ROM thread on XDA. It’s just shy of 700MB in size, so you’ll want to have a WiFi connection handy if you’re not an unlimited data plan subscriber.
