Google is giving away the Nexus Q for FREE!

nexus q 300x187Yes folks, you read that right. Google is indeed giving away the recently announced Nexus Q device for free. There is a catch, you had to already have it preordered from the play store.

According to sources, Google has suspended shipment of the sphere device INDEFINITELY. When asked why, Google had this to say “initial feedback from users say they want the Nexus Q to do even more than it does today,” they added that “the industrial design and hardware were met with great enthusiasm.” A curious response considering the fact that for the foreseeable future Google will not be sending out any more units.

One thing is certain, Google will need to do something and fast to not lose the living room to already cheaper and easier competitors like the Roku, Apple TV, or even Boxee.

In what some are calling a standup move on behalf of Google, it seems those that have already preordered the Nexus Q will be receiving it for free with no word on when or even if Google will relaunch the device. Customers awoke yesterday to a surprisingly awesome email that read like this:

“We have an important update about your Nexus Q pre-order.

When we announced Nexus Q at Google I/O, we gave away devices to attendees for an early preview. The industrial design and hardware were met with great enthusiasm. We also heard initial feedback from users that they want the Nexus Q to do even more than it does today. In response, we have decided to postpone the consumer launch of Nexus Q while we work on making it even better.

To thank you for your early interest, we’d like to extend the Nexus Q preview to our pre-order customers and send you a free device. If you had other items in your order, your credit card will be charged for those items only.

Your Nexus Q will be on its way soon and you will receive a notification and tracking number from Google Play when it ships.

The Nexus Q Team”

So do you wish you would have preordered the Nexus Q or do you think that it will fade in to the tech world black hole, never to be seen again?
