Google Maps Event Leap Frogs the Apple WWDC
If you recall, Apple announced the decision in early May to drop Google Maps in favor of their own in-house maps applications. The Apple maps application news generated a fair amount of buzz in the technology world, due to the inclusion of a powerful new 3D mode cited as that apps most important aspect. Although the app is said to be similar to Google Maps, it is being touted as a much cleaner, faster, and more reliable experience.
Well, it now appears that Google intends to make some news of their own, by holding a Maps event on June 6th ahead of the already scheduled Apple WWDC on June 11th. Google will apparently provide a “behind-the-scenes look at Google Maps and share our vision.” In addition, a sneak peek at forthcoming features will also be exhibited as part of the festivities.
In any event, I will be looking forward to both what Google brings to the table on the 6th and alternatively what Apple counters with on the 11th. Hang on tight folks, things continue to remain interesting between these two “sluggers.”
So what’s the consensus? Desperation or clever move by Google undercutting the WWDC?
