Google updates Play Store to 3.8.15 and gets ready for Gifts…
Alright guys, we have a new update to our marketplace, better known as the Google Play Store. This update brings the Store up from 3.7.15 to 3.8.15, and even without a lot of surface changes, the update is big — 300kb bigger as a matter of fact, a size increase that hasn’t been seen since the update from 3.5 to 3.7!
Well, what is included in the new version? From what you’ll be able to see, not a lot. The only thing noticeable at first is a slight UI change, the underlining of category titles. The more interesting change, and the one you be itching to get your hands on will be lying beneath the surface in the hidden apk files.
What we have uncovered hidden in the app are changes to code segments and additions of extra .png files. If you check out the code for the app you’ll be able to find lines such as these:
- <include layout=”@layout/details_wishlist” />
- c_menu_market_redeem.png
- <string name=”menu_my_wishlist“>My Wishlist</string>
- <string name=”gift_cards_not_supported”>
- <item android:icon=”@drawable/ic_menu_market_redeem” android:id=”@id/redeem_item” android:title=”@string/redeem_gift_card” />
Hopefully, even for you non-programmers out there, you should be able to tell that Google is preparing the Play Store for wish lists and gift cards. I know I’ve been waiting for these items forever, as long as there have been apps to buy.
It’s important to note that Google is not entirely ready for these new changes just yet, as they are not “activated” in the newly-updated app.Even though Google has “turned them off”, fellow Google+ er, Mathias Tillman, was able to configure the code to show what the new changes will look like when “activated”.
Pictures are below, including new changes, new images, and the link to the new Play Store version. Now you can all sit down and catch your breath from this very exciting moment.
View. Download. Enjoy.
