And on This Day, We Turn One

Those of you have followed us since the beginning know that it’s been an amazing year for us here at OMG!Droid. For those unaware, today marks the one-year birthday for our site, and man has it been an amazing journey. I started this site with the intention of running it in my spare time, as a mere hobby; little did I know, it would soon encompass my entire life and lead me to meet some of the most amazing people on the planet.

The site was started shortly after the time Google+ went into its invite-only beta phase, which I received an invite to and quickly became addicted soon after. We’ve had some highs, and we’ve seen our share of lows — we even took an extended vacation for a couple of months back at the beginning of 2012, but we came back with a full head of steam, a few new family members, and the same undying passion for Android that we’ve had since the G1 first launched in 2008.

We’re always looking for new ways to keep our readers coming back to the site, as we know we are in a field of thick competition, with some awesome Android blogs already out there doing their own thing. Our goal has never been to step on anyone’s toes, as we believe that there’s more than enough room in the Android community for people to express their opinions, create unique and interesting content, and engage with their family, friends, and followers.

It has always been our mission to make each and every visitor to our site feel welcome and at home, and we pride ourselves on being the realest bunch of Android enthusiasts you’ll ever come across. There’s no sugar coating at all here, folks. If a device or product sucks, we’ll be the first to tell you all about it, just as we would if said device or product were awesome.

Come Join Us for the Party and Get Free Stuff!

Anyhoo, enough of my rambling and back to the main focus at hand. Today is our birthday, and we cordially invite you to join us in an online event on Google+ to help us celebrate. No worries about where you live, what time zone you’re in, or any of that jazz. The event runs from now until 12:00AM tomorrow morning, so you have a full 24 hours to take part in all the fun.

We’ve got an AWESOME exclusive icon pack to hand out to each person who attends the party. This icon pack comes to us from the man, the legend himself, Tha Phlash (the same gent who designed our logo, as well as the brand-spankin’ new AOKP logo). It comes with 1,515 OMG!Droid-centric icons, and is appropriately dubbed, “Tha OMG!Droid”.

Tha OmgDroid preview

We even did an interview with Tha Phlash a loooong time ago, back when he still had an old HTC myTouch. Those were the days, eh, Phlash? The pictures in the article seem to be borked, but you can still read the interview if you’d like to check out a blast from the past.

To be eligible to receive this pack for free (it will run you $4.99, otherwise), all you have to do is hit up the Event Page and indicate that you are attending. Then, during the 24-hour time period of the party, take a picture and share it with the “Party Mode” functionality of the Google+ Android app. The picture can be ANYTHING you want, but please keep them PG-13, as the party is public and we don’t want to end up getting shut down by the Google Police.

We hope to see a ton of you in attendance, as it doesn’t require much of your time to come out and show some love for one of your favorite Android sites on the Internet.

Thanks again to Tha Phlash for his continued support and hard work in the Android community. Thanks to our good pal, the lovely Sivan Rehan, for the yummy cake pictured above that she made for her son and allowed us to borrow. And of course, thanks to each and every one of or followers, friends, and family. Without you fine folks, none of this would be possible.

<3 your faces!
