One of the most amazing aspects of owning an Android device is that, even though your device may be a little out-dated and may not ever receive an official update to the latest flavor of the operating system, the development community is always hard at work to bring as much of it as they can to all of those legacy devices that have been left out in the cold by their manufacturers.

Sometimes gems come in the form of custom ROMs, while others come in the form of ported applications, and that’s exactly what we’ve got for you here. Mobint Software has released an app on Google Play, called “Holo Locker”, which is a port of the Jelly Bean  lock screen, compatible with any device running Android 2.2 (Froyo) or greater.

This is not a theme for an already-existing lock screen replacement app. Holo Locker is its own stand-alone application and it’s available for free on the Google Play Store. While, there aren’t a ton of customization options as of yet, the developer has promised a flurry of updates in the coming weeks, so this one should definitely get interesting, folks.

Want to try out Holo Locker for yourself? Hit up the link below and you’ll be whisked away to the magical land that is the Google Play Store. Pick up the tiny 170k download, let us know what you think and tell all your friends who own older devices is about it.

Happy testing!

It is a pretty simplistic lock screen. I mean that in a good way, though. I have a Droid X2 and I don’t stand a chance on getting ICS “officially”, but thanks to this and the Holo Launcher, I’m pretty close visually. Well done, devs.

I’m having a problem with it on my S3. While it works perfectly fine most of the time, if the room is particularly well-lit or I am outdoors during the day, the screen keeps waking up. No matter what options in the app I check or untick, the screen locks for two seconds then wakes up again.

I had to remove it and I am very bummed out; it’s far more responsive than the default S3 locker which drives me nuts sometimes.
