How-To get Playstation Mobile app working on your rooted device

PlayStation Mobile

So earlier today we told you all about Sony’s newest android app, “Playstation Mobile”, but as we stated the app is only available to device which Sony deems as Playstation certified — narrowing your choices down to Sony’s tablet S, Xperia Play, and HTC’s one series (soon). Well I don’t have any of those devices, so I was curious if I’d ever be able to see it.

Being on Android I enjoy having the ability to get any app I want. Well, now I can get the Playstation Mobile app working without having one of those devices, thanks to the guys over at Android Police. I have successfully tested it on my Nexus 7, and even have a video of it on my Youtube page if you want to check it out.

The instructions are below along with the necessary links to download files. Pre-warning though, if you don’t have a certified device, the Store front part of the app may not work, however it does work on my Nexus 7. Also OMG!Droid nor Android Police are responsible if your device blows up, steals your girlfriend, or sends nude pictures of your dog to Playboy. Be safe!

Instructions:

  • Have root!
  • Download and install the latest PSM apk from Sony. (Do not run yet, just install)
  • Download THIS flashable zip file
  • Download Busybox if you don’t have it, although you probably do.
  • Flash the zip through CWM or TWRP
  • Reboot
  • Profit!

If you want to place the files in your system yourself (as I did), you can follow this instruction below:

  • Unzip the zip file downloaded above.
  • Copy playcertetcpermissionscom.playstation.playstationcertified.xml to /system/etc/permissions/ on your device.
  • Copy playcertframeworkcom.playstation.playstationcertified.jar to /system/framework/ on your device.
  • Set the permissions on com.playstation.playstationcertified.jar to 644 (read/write, read, read) using your favorite file manager or command line.
  • Reboot
  • Profit!

How’s everyone like this app. Is it worth Sony to have “Certified devices?”
