HTC Thunderbolt finally gets an AOSP Ice Cream Sandwich ROM with working data
Oh, the poor, poor HTC Thunderbolt. Now here’s a phone that we thought has all the potential in the world.
We won’t drag the folks who own one through the mud by reminding everyone about the phone’s seemingly never-ending quest to get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but we do have a bit of good news for those of you still rocking a T-Bolt and looking for some AOSP ICS love.
There have been a few attempts at a successful AOSP port for the phone, but the major hurdle all along has been getting mobile data to work.
Thanks to XDA Senior Member [SP]JESTER, and a few other cool cats, there is now an AOSP ROM available for the taking — with data, call signal, and MMS all working.
Now, before you go all crazy on us, it is important to note that this ROM isn’t 100% stable, but from what we’re hearing, it’s close. Here’s a list of what’s still borked:
- Video Camera
- Netflix
- Wifi Tether may be broke for now, Use the Internal version in settings
If you can live without any of the above, you can go back to going crazy.
Now, keep in mind — OMG!Droid cannot be held accountable for any mishaps you have, so be sure to read the instructions thoroughly before installing this bleeding edge software on your device.
If reading and following directions aren’t your forte, it might be safer to sit this one out, but if you’re feeling frisky, get your tail on over to the original ROM thread for the download links and discussion.
Happy Crack Flashing!
