Is The iPhone 4S Crippling Sprint’s Network?

iPhone sprint

It’s no secret that iPhone users gobble up far more data than Android, BlackBerry or Windows Phone users. One of the biggest fears with the arrival of the iPhone 4S on Sprint was how it would affect data speeds on the network. Well, it looks like those fears have come to fruition.

A thread has popped up over on the Sprint Community forum with nearly 1,000 responses (and counting) complaining of frustratingly slow data speeds and in some cases, a complete failure to connect to Sprint’s data network. It’s not just affecting iPhone owners, either. Many Android users have also been complaining of the same problem all across the country.

It begs the question: is the iPhone and Sprint’s decision to continue to offer unlimited data to iPhone subscribers crippling the Sprint network? We’re not saying that’s definitively the case, but it sure is an awfully large coincidence that these problems have come about shortly after Sprint began selling the iPhone. Are you noticing painfully slow network performance? Let us know, and be sure to tell us where you’re located as well.

A 22-year old proud New Yorker with an obsession with all-things Android. I consider myself a tech junkie, and have recently begun sharing my thoughts and opinions through writing for various Android websites. An SEO and grammar Nazi, I love what I do and take my writings very seriously. My first Android device was an OG Droid (a phone I still have laying around the house). From there I went to a Droid Incredible, Samsung Fascinate & HTC Merge. I also have a fascination and slight obsession with Android-based tablets, which you may see from my style of writing.

I haven’t noticed any changes in my data speeds at all. People have been complaining for months in certain areas that Sprint’s 3g and sometimes 4g WiMax services are not as quick as they should be. Part of that is the improvements needed for the network which is part of the network vision plan that includes 4g LTE and part of the problem is coverage, which should be drastically improved by the completion of network vision and really there should be an obvious improvement even before that. Sprint’s network has greatly improved over the last few years and with Network Vision I am betting that the speeds and coverage the network will have will wow everyone. Patience people. There will be growing pains.

I agree with Stephen, Sprint’s network has always had problems, It is possible that like the first generation iPhone 4G there is an issue with the phone. As bad as it is for some people, iPhones being terrible is not just a sprint thing. in California, iPhones are notoriously bad about dropping calls on the AT&T network. The office in question switched to a different phone (not carrier) and their service quality improved. Also, 1000 people nationwide is a drop in the bucket when compared to the number of sprint subscribers and even the number of sprint iPhone 4S users.

I bought a GS2 more than 1 month ago and it was fine, the 3G and 4G connection was fast enough, but now I am getting slow 3G data and sometimes my phone has not regular signal, it look like weak.
I just switched for Sprint from T-Mobile and the iPhone came here too… what a shame…
