Mod: Google Nexus 7 gets 720p video recording

nexus7back

If you’re rocking a Nexus 7, you were probably disappointed to find out that the device’s camera did not allow for recording 720p videos out of the box. The funny thing is, even though it doesn’t allow for it by default, that doesn’t mean that it cannot be done. XDA Recognized Developer hillbeast put together a nice little guide to prove this point.

Installing this mod is simple, as long as you’re comfortable editing your media_profiles.xml file. Of course, you’ll still want to take the standard precautionary measurements — make a Nandroid backup, Titanium backup, and back up any other important data or settings you want to keep safe, just in case.

“To make this work, you need to modify /system/etc/media_profiles.xml, or if you are editing the source files for an AOSP build, you want to edit android/device/asus/grouper/media_profiles.xml, and you’ll need a Camera.apk (A good one to use is this as you don’t need to install it to /system/apps).”

Here are two different videos to show the affect that is caused here. First, take a look at the bef0re shot:

Now, have  a look at the end result (make sure to set you brower or app to display in 720p):
