Motorola announces the ELECTRIFY 2 and DEFY XT for U.S. Cellular
Motorola has announced availability for two new Android handsets slated for release on U.S. Cellular, the nation’s sixth-largest wireless carrier.
First up, we’ve got the “incredibly thin, made Kevlar strong” ELECTRIFY 2, which is the second-generation followup to the original ELECTRIFY, released about a year ago.
The ELECTRIFY 2 features a slim 8.4 millimeter design and an invisible splash-guard coating to protect from spills. It comes with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 4.3-inch ColorBoost display, rear-facing 8 megapixel camera with LED flash and a 1080p HD camcorder. As for OS flavors, this baby will come rocking Ice Cream Sandwich.
The phone will also be the first to bring SMARTACTIONS to the table — a free Motorola app (this reeks of bloatware, doesn’t it?) that can help extend battery life as well as intelligently automate routine, everyday tasks and suggest ways to personalize your phone to make your life easier.
The ELECTRIFY 2 is available today, via U.S. Cellular’s online store, for $199 (after a $100 mail-in rebate). It will land in retail stores tomorrow. Of course, that same price will land you a Galaxy S III, so I have a hard time believing this one will be much of a competitor. (Sorry, Motorola. I still love you.)
Up next, we’ve got the “tough and durable” DEFY XT. It’s water-resistant, dust-proof and comes with a scratch-resistant 3.7-inch touchscreen, so this phone is more than ready to take on everyday scrapes and spills.
Other than the 5-megapixel front-facer, there’s no other specs listed in the press release, so I’m assuming this will be another low-to-mid range device — perfect for those who don’t need a super computer in their pockets and those who live life actively. The DEFY XT, like the ELECTRIFY 2, will also come with Android 4.1 (ICS).
I couldn’t manage to find a price for the DEFY XT on U.S. Cellular’s page, but I’d imagine this one will fall in between the $100-$200 range and will likely have the same mail-in rebate deal, as well.
The DEFY XT will be available online and in stores beginning August 3rd.
