Motorola DROID 4 finally about to get a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich?

Droid 4 update 1

Owners of the Motorola DROID 4 have probably been feeling a little left out lately. With all the talk of Jelly Bean floating around the Internet these days, I can only imagine the rage that sets in for a D4 user when they look down at their phone and see Gingerbread staring at them.

Unfortunately, we’re not here to tell you that the DROID 4 is going to get Android 4.1, but it does look like it will be getting an update to Android 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) very soon.

Our buddies from AndroidSPIN have spotted a new software update PDF, which comes directly from Big Red’s site, so we can’t help but to assume this is legit — the only thing we don’t know is when the update will actually start to roll out. We’ve got our sights set on the end of the week, but that’s still anybody’s guess.

One thing is for certain, the update is labeled 6.16.217.XT894.Verizon.en.US, and we can clearly see Ice Cream Sandwich staring back at us in the two photos Stormy posted. The update will also bring along with it global roaming capabilities.

When the time comes that the update is available, you can pick it up by checking your Menu > Settings > About Phone > System Updates. You’ll want to have a WiFi connection handy, as the file is 364.1MB in size.

We’ll make sure to keep an eye out for word on the availability of the update, so be sure to stay tuned.
