Motorola Droid 4 now receiving OTA update; No Ice Cream Sandwich in sight

Motorola Droid 4 with Motorola Logo

If you own a Motorola Droid 4, you’re in for a treat. Unfortunately, the treat comes to you in the form of a Gingerbread, rather than the tasty Ice Cream Sandwich you really want. Thanks to our friends at Android Central for spotting the update, which is said to be rolling out right now. Here’s what’s inside:

  • Enhanced loud call end and connect tones over Bluetooth
  • Power On function has been fixed
  • Improved battery life
  • Improvements made to reduce touch screen lockups, device sluggishness, and blank screen lockups
  • Keypad backlight only launches when needed
  • Successfully receive Visual Voice Mail notifications
  • MotoCast widget can be added to the homescreen and thumbnail view
  • Improved text message delivery when using the Messaging application
  • Improvements to WiFi connectivity

Not all that shabby, from the look of things. I’m sure you would all have like to have seen a new Android flavor, but these additions and enhancements are sure to make that D4 rock just a little bit smoother.

If you haven’t already been notified, mash that system settings button right now to check for your update. As with all OTAs, make sure you have a full battery charge and a WiFi connection handy for the download. Once you’ve gotten it, make sure to let us know how it’s working for you!
