Motorola Facing Ban in The U.S.

droid1Motorola is the latest manufacturer facing a ban. Due to intellectual property disputes with Microsoft, select phones have been subjected to an import ban including:

  • Atrix
  • Backflip
  • Bravo
  • Charm
  • Cliq
  • Cliq 2
  • Cliq XT
  • Defy
  • Devour
  • Droid 2
  • Droid 2 Global
  • Droid Pro
  • Droid X
  • Droid X2
  • Flipout
  • Flipside
  • Spice
  • Xoom

Thats a hefty list, although the U.S. Trade Commission has not specified wich devices would be affected by the proposed ban. Motorola has been given the choice of removing the particular feature that “infringes” on Microsoft’s paten claims, or making changes so that “infringements” no longer are present.

Microsoft currently makes $5 – $15 in patent licensing from companies like HTC, Samsung, Huawei, and LG for technologies they claim Android “infringes” upon.

Involved with Android since the Cupcake days, Taji (B.K.A. Screw Muggz in G+ circles) is a developer and Android obsessed fanatic. If not somewhere deep in code or flashing a new ROM, he likes to shame owners of lesser devices for their poor choice of purchase. Highly elusive, but you can catch him on Google+ or track his latest known movements on Twitter.
