Motorola Joining HTC?
With the HTC and their One X and EVO 4G LTE already delayed from importation at the US border awaiting inspections from customs, Motorola may soon be in the same predicament. ITC has order a ban on the import of Motorola Android phonesfor infringing on Microsoft’s patent, U.S. Patent No. 6,370,566 on “generating meeting requests and group scheduling from a mobile device”.
Another one of those patents where I’m like “JUST GO AHEAD AND PATENT A CELL PHONE FROM MAKING CALLS!” All these patents nowadays are all just implemented from companies to troll other companies, and reduce competition. Which in my opinion isn’t great for business.Google and Motorola have already explained to the judge that this patent isn’t great in public interest.
Anyways Motorola is one of the few companies who, when getting sued by Microsoft, chooses to stay in court and battle it out instead of settling. Now Moto can easily simply tweak the function out of their software but this could just as easily backfire on them as well.
The patent-importation-ban claim could go into effect in 60 days. This isn’t soon enough to affect devices already being shipped out, but could soon affect unannounced devices.
