[Our Apps] The FNicon: Must Have’s

android platform 300x300

As avid Android users, we all have those certain apps that we must have on our phone no matter what.  Games, social networking, productivity, or whatever your poison is.  These are apps that from the moment we turn on a new phone to activate (after rooting of course), or flash yet another ROM to test out, that are essential to our daily lives or what we need our phone to do.  I pondered this the other day when I was looking at all the apps I have installed, in many cases hardly use, and wondered what I can’t live without?  Welcome to my must have list in no particular order…

twitter

Twitter for Android: I am a Twitter whore, and I happily admit it.  It’s my daily entertainment and easy way to keep in touch with numerous people….or laugh at them.  Not saying this is the best Twitter client, but personally I prefer the simplicity and push notices.  download

omgdroid

OMG!Droid:  Not intended to be a cheap plug by any means for the site.  I actually do use this regularly to keep up with Android news.  Before the app ever launched I was always checking the mobile site.  download

drive

Google Drive:  Formerly Google Docs.  All my docs in one convenient location.  I’ve used it for my own personal stuff for a long time now, and the document sharing is a nice perk to have with other people.  download

music

Google Music:  I swear I don’t use every Google service known to man.  But getting somewhere around 20k songs worth of free storage for my devices, especially for my car….hell yes I use it.  download

amazon

Amazon:  I am a victim of Amazon shopping, or addict.  Whichever you prefer to label me as.  The 1-click purchase button is my best friend and worst enemy at the same time.  download

iheartradio

iHeartRadio:  I never was a big fan of this app or some similar options simply due to the streaming quality.  However, I lucked out and found a couple of out of town stations that are a pain in the ass to pick up around here at times.  download

directv

DirecTV:  Remote access to set recordings on my DVR for when I can’t get home is the greatest thing EVER.  download

gplus

Google+:  I hate Facebook with a passion.  G+ may not be the most popular social site around, and it certainly lacks in the female population, but at least it has a level of humor and intelligence.  I’ll take that any day over emo kids complaining about being ugly in every pic they post, or 5 pages of ugly baby pics.  download

instagram

Instagram:  This was an unintentional guilty pleasure I ran across.  I was looking for something of a photo share that I could use on different sites, and didn’t want to run anything directly off my Picasa account.  Plus it’s fun to watch the iPhone kids still crying that we have it now too.  download

lookout

Lookout Mobile Security:  Isn’t the reasoning for this obvious?  Nice UI, easy to use, and the tracking works pretty well.  download

miniinfo

Mini Info:  This was a random memory widget I ran across one day while trying to find one that didn’t look like total shit.  I must say I’ve grown very fond of it.  download

milk

Out of Milk:  Yes, I am that type of person to get a separate app just for my grocery list.  The UI is clean and very easy to use, it scans bar codes really well, and the auto sync on the paid version is nice with as often as I change ROMS so I don’t lose my list.  download

reader

Google Reader:  I keep a ton of RSS feeds, and this by far has been one of the best apps to run them through that I’ve found.  The biggest win is having access on the app, or the web site.  download
