Mysterious Motorola QWERTY Phone Smiles for the Camera; Headed to Sprint?

It looks like T-Mobile isn’t the only carrier rumored to be getting a new QWERTY phone in the coming months. Apparently, Motorola and Sprint will join forces to release the device in the photo above. So, where did this pic come from? Earlier today, an Android Central Forums member uploaded it to the site’s Rumored Devices forum.

According to the story, this is a test device being used by a Sprint beta tester. A relative of the beta tester laid eyes on the device and did exactly what I would have done in the same situation — got out his camera and snapped a picture. Whether or not the picture was taken with permission is still anybodies guess, but that’s for a different time and place. Right now we’re talking about Moto’s new QWERTY slider.

All we really know about the device for now is what you can see for yourself in the photo. There’s a five-row keyboard with staggered keys and dedicated arrow buttons. Android Central is guessing the phone features a qHD display, so if we’re wrong, blame them, not us. Love ya AC!

Otherwise, everything else is pretty much guesswork right now. We’ll let you kick this one around in your head for a while, then be sure to let us know what you think.

No doubt the bootloader will be completely locked down, leaving the hapless new users at the mercy of a lackluster corporate release schedule for updates, and almost no room for customization. I can’t stand Apple, but I’d get an iPhone first.
