Digging through my GMail inbox yesterday and weeding through the ridiculous amount of app review requests I’ve gotten over the past few weeks, I came across a needle in a haystack.

While I usually get asked to review 2-3 apps a day on average, I only end up with a true gem once every couple of weeks; that’s exactly what I’ve got for you here today.

As a parent, let me start by saying that I’m in love with the concept of Andy Dyer-Smith‘s PhotoChron Daily Timelapse app. The app lets you take a photo every day, week or month and build it into a timelapse video for you to share with your family and friends.

Here’ what Andy has to say about PhotoChron:

The backstory is that I wanted to start taking a photo of my son every week or so. Being a bit of a geek I thought I’d build an Android App to help me. The result is Photochron, which is a free app that lets you take a series of photos and then join them into a video.

I’ve been taking a photo of my son once a week for almost a year and here is the result:

Features of the app include:
 - Use a simple face outline or the previous frame to help you line up your photos
 - Set up reminders for every day, week or month
 - Photochron will detect faces to help with photo alignment if you ask it
 - Edit the alignment for old photos using pinch/zoom/rotate
 - Easy sharing to Youtube, Facebook, Google+ etc.

It’s a free download, and is compatible with Gingerbread and upwards.

Since its release, PhotoChron has even caught the attention of makeuseof.com, one of the top 1000 websites in the entire world (#802 to be exact, as per Alexa), so we’re excited to have been considered for sharing this news with our readers.

One of the things I like most about the app is the ability to set reminders to take photos. With my busy schedule, if I don’t set an alarm or reminder, whatever it is that I’m supposed to be doing will more than likely not get done on time.

If you’d like to give PhotoChron a run for its money, head on over to the Google Play Store via the link below and pick it up for free.
