No free 50GB of Dropbox for AT&T or Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III buyers

When the Samsung Galaxy S III was first announced, one of the features talked about was the inclusion of 50GB of free storage from the popular cloud storage service, Dropbox.
Initially, it was reported that SGSIII owners would be treated to the hefty amount of storage space for a period of two years. Unfortunately, it looks like not everyone planning to pick up the Next Galaxy phone will get this luxury.
Apparently, AT&T and Verizon have both opted out of the deal. This was first revealed by a Dropbox forums moderator, who responded to a forum user who was asking for help because they were not seeing the free storage appear after purchasing the phone, yet did not specify the version. Much to the user’s dismay, the moderator broke the bad news.

Next thing you know, Dropbox went ahead and sealed the deal by officially confirming that AT&T and Verizon had opted out. Fortunately, none of the other major US carriers (Sprint, T-Mobile or US Cellular) have followed suit — yet. We’re just going to have to wait and see how this one plays out.

For me, the free storage isn’t much of a decision-swaying factor. I’ll still be at my local Magenta outlet the day the device goes up for sale (June 21′st, for those who didn’t know), with or without the free space. Until then, stay tuned.
