Official Ice Cream Sandwich leaks for T-Mobile HTC Amaze 4G
Your patience has finally paid off, fellow HTC Amaze owners! Just a few short days ago, we were treated to S-Off status thanks to the work of the wonderful development community. Now, we’re elated to announce that the official Ice Cream Sandwich update has popped up online and can now be installed on your device.
This was posted last night by XDA Senior Member Football without background info or instruction — just a short and sweet, “Here ya go”. Regardless, this is one of the best presents that could have ever been given to us Amaze owners, as we’ve waited patiently for this for quite some time now. Within a few minutes, community members had already figured out how to get the file installed and were tearing up the threads with chatter about the ROM.
I won’t dig too far into details on installing, but I will tell you that you’re going to really do some reading before you attempt to flash this. The process is a little different from your typical custom ROM install in the sense that you cannot just throw the file on your SD card and flash it with a custom recovery. You’ll need to rename the file, put it on the root of your SD card and then boot into the bootloader to make the magic happen. For full details, check the source at the bottom of the page.
So, now you’re probably wondering what’s included with this. We’re looking at Android 4.0.3 and Sense 3.6 — sorry to those of you who were hoping to get a taste of Sense 4.0. This is still an amazing update. Live with it. Additionally, everything else you can expect from an ICS update is in tow. Face Unlock works great and both cameras are fully-functioning. After installing, you do lose root, but it can easily be gained again — do your homework. The information is out there.
If you can wait no longer (I can’t blame you), head on over to the original thread on XDA. You might also want to check the other threads for custom ROMs that have been baked since, as the install process will be a little easier for you and you’ll most likely keep root. That being said, welcome to ICS. It’s a helluva drug!
