Why you should use 2-step verification… Right now.

I read this article yesterday. My mouth literally hit the floor several times while I read about the tragedy that befell this poor man.

Mat Honan, of the website Wired, saw years of digital life destroyed in about one hour. It seems, which is little surprise to me, that there are inadequacies in the digital world that lead to the destruction of a person’s online identity and loss of irreplaceable pictures.

Before following the link to the original article, please take the time and setup your 2-step verification with Google. It only takes a few minutes, is a 7 step process and will help educate you on protecting your digital life from hackers .

It may seem inconvenient having to enter codes every 30 days or when on a different computer/device. The reward is more protection to your ever-growing dependency on your digital life.

I know that I will not be troubled by using this extra layer of protection. Make sure to take the time and read the full article despite it mainly being Apple and Amazon being the center of the black hole that Mat Honan fell into.

I currently live just north of Philadelphia. I have a huge passion for new technology and follow as much as possible on all new developments. I am a (currently unemployed) laboratory scientist that is filling the time between job interviews and searching with my love of technology and anything science. Feel free to hit me up on chat and even circle me. I do my best to circle folks back who actively engage me in conversation about anything :)

If this worked well with all of the programs that I use, and if it didn’t keep being bugged on my GNex (really, Google? Your super-security isn’t working right on a Nexus device!?) I’d go back to using this in a heartbeat. I had too much trouble keeping my email programs authorized…and it kept getting out of sync on my phone too. I HAVE to be able to get email, pretty much instantaneously, so this is a no-go for me until it’s fixed.
