[Rumor] Leaked MetroPCS device roadmap through end of year includes Galaxy SIII. Wait, what?

500 MetroPCS WFA 4color

The best thing about writing posts on news bits I find as opposed to doing any kind of live show, is that I can take needed breaks to laugh hysterically when I find things like this.  Honestly, almost any time I see info roll out about pre-paid carriers I’m usually left in a state of hilarity.

There’s a source on androidforums.com that claims he’s part of corporate for MetroPCS and has leaked the device roadmap through the rest of this year to give you an idea of what to expect.  Do I know if this guy is right?  Not at all.  I don’t know him, or the accuracy of his track record.  Do I find humor in pre-paid carriers stocking a device like the Galaxy SIII when there isn’t a large user base jumping ship in the first place?  Absolutely.

According to user Ære, Metro is getting the following:

Samsung Galaxy S Lightray 4G
o Expected to launch on 8/6
o Mobile Hotspot will be available on the device

Coolpad Quattro 4G
o Launch targeted for 8/22

LG Motion 4G
o Launch targeted for 8/29
o Excited about Ice Cream Sandwich Android

ZTE Anthem 4G
o Launch targeted for 8/29

Huawei Pinnacle 2
o Launch targeted for early-Sept
Samsung Contour 2
o Launch targeted for mid-Sept

Huawei Verge

Samsung Galaxy S 3
§ Will be available after September and before December

Most of these I can see on a pre-paid lineup when it comes to Android phones.  Mid-range devices, without a real high cost considering you don’t get the post-paid subsidies in return for a contract.  Getting that lower cost most times results in a trade off in device performance.  But with the SIII, how many customers will they be able to get to shell out that money when the general idea of going pre-paid is to save on cash?

you would be suprised by the size of a market that a higher end phone has for a unsubsidized carrier like Metro, take for instance the Lg Esteem. its selling price is still right around $400 (after 8+ months). and it still sells well. I’m sure both the motion, the lightray and the s3 will do fine. As I’m sure the price point wont be any higher then likely $500. people will still buy them
