Rumors suggest Samsung Galaxy S III will get Jelly Bean (Android 4.1) later this month

If there’s any truth to the latest chatter from the rumor mill, I’m about to be a happy camper. Yesterday, the good folks from GSMArena snuck in a little bombshell at the bottom of an article they published about leaked photos of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note II.

If their sources are correct, my fellow Galaxy S III owners might want to mark August 29th down on your calendars because that’s the latest date being tossed around for an official Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) update to begin rolling out. Samsung is expected to announce both the update and the Galaxy Note II at its Mobile Unpacked event during IFA in Germany this year. Only time will tell if that’s how the story plays out or not.

If the rumors we’ve already heard about Jelly Bean “coming soon” for the Galaxy S III are even remotely true, what better time and place is there to announce it than Unpacked?

We’re still a couple weeks out yet, so there’s definitely a lot of time to salivate on the possibility of Project Butter gracing our buttery-smooth S3′s. If I had to guess though, the rollout will hit the quad-core International version first and us here in the States rocking carrier-branded versions will have to wait a bit longer.

Of course, the developers are already on standby at Rootzwiki and XDA, waiting for something they can work their magic on. I’ll be monitoring the threads myself too, so I’ll be sure to let you know if something unofficial pops up that you can try while waiting on the real deal

First thanks for the free extended battery update. Secondly all nexus devices better be updated before then. Doubt it will happen but I can dream can’t I.
