Samsung Galaxy Nexus With Ice Cream Sandwich Has Finally Arrived

As many of you know, today is the day we’ve all been waiting for.  That’s right, the announcement of Ice Cream Sandwich and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, which will be the first Android device to run Ice Cream Sandwich.  All of us here at OMG!Droid were tuned into the live feed from Hong Kong as Google and Samsung made their announcements.

One of the first things we’ve already learned is that the Galaxy Nexus will be using what they call Face Unlock.  What is Face Unlock you ask ?  Well, it’s what will be used to unlock your phone.  Yes, pretty much just as it sounds, the Galaxy Nexus will use facial recognition to unlock your phone.  More on this as information becomes available. Jump on over past the break for more!

Here are a few specs of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus as we know so far:

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus will come in two versions.  The HSPA+ and the LTE versions.  The LTE version will be a true 4G speed device which helps give it it’s amazing speed. There are 4 key features that were focused on when designing and creating the Galaxy Nexus.  Those 4 features are: Speed, Screen, Design and the OS itself.

The Galaxy Nexus will be the fastest smartphone available upon it’s release.  The processing speed is phenomenal compared to any other smartphone available.  It’s highly optimized with Ice Cream Sandwich.  When people watch videos, they don’t want buffering.  With the Galaxy Nexus, you won’t get buffering.

With Face Unlock, you can now unlock your device with a simple smile.  That’s right, Face Unlock is new in Ice Cream Sandwich and your device will recognize your face, and unlock your phone automatically.

You can watch text instantly appear on your device with voice input. Touch the microphone on the keyboard and use your voice to instantly type your emails, SMS, or anywhere you want to enter text.  You can use it to input contact information or when you want to visit a URL in your web browser.  It’s no longer just for sending emails and SMS.

When people start looking at devices they want to purchase, 80% of them look at the design first and foremost.  This is one of the most important features of any phone.  If it’s not designed well, we seem to think it won’t work well.  So this was one of the key features that Samsung felt was very important when designing this device.  The unique and original curved design will attract many people.  It’s very lightweight and is considerably thinner than any other smartphone available.  In fact, the HSPA+ model will be an amazing 8.84mm thick.

The screen of the Galaxy Nexus will strut a stunning 1280×720 screen resolution.  It will have a 4.65″ screen, which is wider than any other phone available, yet it won’t feel any bigger than any other device you’ve been using in the past.  The bezel on the Galaxy Nexus will be an amazing 4.29mm which is better than any other device out there as well.  The screen will provide us with 100,000/1 contrast ratio and will have a 0.01ms response time.  What this means is, the screen will exceed most TV’s available today.

The Galaxy Nexus will have a single-motion panoramic camera.  You get a high-end camera with zero-shutter-lag, automatic focus, top notch low-light performance and a simple, intuitive way to take panoramic photos.  No stitching needed. You can take amazing photos or 1080p videos and you can edit and then share them right from your phone, instantly.

The exterior of the phone will have what Samsung calls HyperSkin.  What this is exactly is a slip resistant, soft texture skin that is very comfortable while holding the device.  This means that you could have your Galaxy Nexus sitting on your desk and be texting, without having to worry about the device sliding across the desk.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus will come with a a 5MP HD Camera, and it will be the fastest camera on the market in any cell phone today.  It will have image stabilization that will help you take clearer pictures even if you are moving slightly.

With the Galaxy Nexus you can share websites, apps, maps, photos, contacts, links, movies, or just about anything else with Android Beam.  All you have to do is touch two NFC enabled devices together and then touch to beam and share.  Simple as that!

Google and Samsung have announced that the Galaxy Nexus will be available in November to customers in the U.S.A., Europe and Asia.  Currently there are no dates that have been mentioned for any other countries such as Canada or others.  When it is released, there will be a Drop-In dock available as well.

This device definitely sounds like it’s going to be exactly what Samsung and Google have been hyping it up to be.  Unfortunately at this time there has been no price announced during this big launch.  We are hoping Samsung and Google will announce this very soon so we can all start saving our pennies, selling off whatever we no longer want to get one of these amazing devices. I personally am not a current customer of Verizon, however, I do believe that is about to change.
