Samsung Galaxy S III Toolkit Simplifies Rooting and Installing Custom Recoveries

For most seasoned Android users, the decision to buy a new device is usually based largely on the popularity of the device and the probability of a strong development community. For those of you eyeing up the Samsung Galaxy S III as your next smartphone (and those of you across the pond who already own one), rest assured — you made a wise investment. This phone is going to be in the hands of so many people that we’re expecting the development progress to come along at an amazing pace.
XDA Senior Moderator and Recognized Developer mskip, who also happened to create the popular Galaxy Nexus toolkit, has released an extremely convenient toolkit for the Galaxy S III. This thing packs a ton of handy features, too. Check it out:
- Install drivers automatically
- Backup/Restore a single package or all apps, user data and Internal Storage
- Backup your /data/media (virtual SD Card) to your PC for a Full Safe backup of data
- Perform a FULL NANDROID Backup of your system via adb and save in Custom Recovery format on your PC
- Pull /data and /system folders, compress to a .tar file and save to your PC
- Backup/Restore your /efs partition
- Dump selected Phone Partitions, compress to a .zip file with md5 and save to your PC
- Install BusyBox binary on phone
- Root any public build (different options available)
- Flash Stock Recovery or CWM Recovery
- Flash Insecure Boot Image for adb mode
- Install a single apk or multiple apk’s to your phone
- Push Files from your PC to your phone
- Pull Files from your phone to your PC

- Reboot Phone options in adb mode
- Change background, text colour in ToolKit
Pretty impressive if you ask me. It’s definitely reassuring to see this already available, almost a full week before the Galaxy S III is slated to launch in the United States. One can only assume it won’t be too much longer before we start seeing some slick custom ROMs trickle out for the device. After all, the CyanogenMOD team has been opening up support for new devices left and right. With the popularity of Sammy’s latest Galaxy device, I think it’s safe to say awesomeness is on the horizon.
If you’ve already got a Galaxy S III in your possession and would like to give the tool kit a run for its money, head on over to the original thread on XDA for the download and discussion you’ll need to get you on your way. Awesome way to start the weekend, isn’t it?
