Samsung: Galaxy S III will get Jelly Bean (Android 4.1) update in October

Imagine that. More good news about the Samsung Galaxy S III. I’ve typed this device’s name so many times over the past few months, it’s ridiculous. A while back, we told you that a Jelly Bean update for the device was “coming soon”, but that’s unfortunately all we had to go off at the time. Now, thanks to our friends from Android Authority, we’ve got an actual time frame to go by.

Apparently, CNET UK is reporting that the update will be available sometime in October. Of course, this leaves a whole 31-day period for the OTA to roll out, so there’s still tons of time for impatience and anxiety.

There’s also the fact that this probably only means the update will be available for the international Galaxy S III (i9300), so there’s likely even more time for us over here in the States to bite our nails and wait.

Samsung has confirmed its flagship phone the Galaxy S3 will receive the update to the latest version of Android, known as Jelly Bean, as soon as October. If you can’t wait that long then the 4G version will be available with Jelly Bean as standard.

Samsung doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to updating its Android phones, with last year’s Galaxy S2 update delays causing something of a riot among its customers. Thankfully it’s not mincing its words this time round, explaining to me that “the Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) operating system will be available on the Galaxy S3 from October.”

Of course, there have already been several Jelly Bean leakings as of late — both for the international and for the T-Mobile versions, so there’s always the option of getting a sneak preview of what’s to come if you don’t mind rooting your device and running into a few bugs. Otherwise, it looks like you’ve got a little more waiting to do.
