Sony Xperia Play Not Receiving Any Ice Cream Sandwich Love After All

Sony Ericsson Xperia Play 1

If you’re a Sony Xperia Play user/owner, you probably do NOT want to read this post. It’s bringing  you bad news. Yep, unfortunately Sony has announced that it will not be pushing out an Ice Cream Sandwich update to the Xperia Play after all. The reasons for this is supposedly due to stability issues with regards to the gaming end of the device.

In a lot of ways this makes perfect sense. It’s probably best to stick with Android 2.3.x since it’s a much more stable version of the OS than Ice Cream Sandwich is. But I know that doesn’t make it any better for you Xperia Play users especially since Sony released a beta ROM earlier showing the progress of the development. And this comes after they had announced that all of the Xperia line of devices would be receiving an update to ICS at some point and time in 2012.

To kind of rub salt in the wound of this bad news, Sony has also announced that all other devices are still on their scheduled track to receive their updates to Android 4.0.3/4 starting in the coming weeks. The Xperia arc, Xperia neo, Xperia mini, Xperia mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman will begin to receive 4.0.4 as an optional update through the PC Companion app from next week. What’s more, Xperia arc S, Xperia ray and Xperia neo V users currently running Android 4.0.3 will get an update to 4.0.4 around the same time.

I’m almost scared to ask any of our fellow Xperia Play users to post their comments with their thoughts about this as I know they will be highly upset and rightfully so they should be. But maybe the fact that Sony is taking into consideration the stability issues will mean something to everyone involved. How do you feel ?
