Sprint LTE Speed Test (Waco Market)

4g cell tower

So since I was one of the lucky people to be in a first launch city, I figured I’d test out the speeds.  Honestly, I was just praying the LTE service would not turn out to be another Wimax connection.  Anyone who has used it knows how horrible it is.  If you haven’t used it before, consider yourself very lucky.

The first test I ran last night at my house.  To be honest, the neighborhood I live in is a “fair coverage” spot as Sprint likes to call it.  That translate to, “you have a signal, but don’t count on it to do much”.  You can thank all the electrical interference and so forth for that.  I don’t really expect much because of it, and the test showed I’m still pretty screwed here.

Trying to tap 5Mbps down and 2Mbps up isn’t going to impress anyone.  However compared to my normal 3G speeds until I’m about two blocks from my house is an improvement.

Now to get  a real test, I went to a much better area in town to see how hard this can peg the scales.  Still had plenty of building around, some cloud cover, and any other standard variables you would have daily.

Over 26Mbps down and over 9Mbps up!  Finally, I have something as a Sprint user that I don’t have to hide my head in shame over.  I did some driving around and was happy to rarely have drops of the 4G signal, or major declines in the connection speed.  If you’re in one of the new markets, how are your speeds?

Just curious why there is only the 3G icon lit in your screenshot. Is that down to something specific on the phone you were testing? Nice results, btw…

I ran the tests on the LTE connection while I was driving around town, then did the screens for the speed tests when I was back at my house. LTE unfortunately in my neighborhood is low so it’s mostly on 3G.
