Titanium Backup updated to 5.6.0, includes some non-root pleasures

unnamed3

One of the most downloaded and popular root-required apps Titanium Backup (TiBu) has been majorly updated earlier today, to version 5.6.0, and includes a slew of awesome new features. What was once an app only useful to rooted user, non-rooted users can also now enjoy in some fun. Your fun is limited but atleast you get a taste of the promise-land icon biggrin

Before I explain and go in-depth with some of these features let’s take a look at the changelog:

What’s in this version:

• [PRO] Can restore apps/data from ADB backup file. These backups can be made *without* root on Android 4.0+ with “adb backup” from a computer, and can be restored with TB once you have root. This helps on HTC devices that perform factory reset on bootloader unlock. Encrypted ADB backups are supported.
• [PRO] Improved “Market Doctor” and “Force attach” to properly repair some broken links that previously required “Destroy all Market links”.
• UI improvements & fixes.
• Updated translations.

Besides the usual update changes that are accustomed to all app updates, such as UI improvements, bug fixes, and updated miscellaneous information, if you reread that first bullet point: These backups can be made *without* root (By the way, thanks Titanium Track for adding the asterisks to the changelog, nice touch.).

So now, through ADB, you can back up your information using TiBu before rooting your device, if for some reason that’s not the first thing you do with a new shiny toy, and restore it afterwards. Now this is only available in the Pro version of the app, but with all the apps features I’m sure anyone would be more than willing to spend the money.

Through Twitter Titanium Track, the creators of TiBu, if you didn’t know helped us out with more information about their app. First off, here is the command to use in ADB in order to backup a non-rooted device:

adb backup -f FullBackup.bin -apk -all

Also, “adb restore” is broken, so you’ll need to use TiBu to restore. Lastly, T-Track has said that TiBu will not be featured in this week’s Google Play Store’s .25$ app deals:

The $0.25 sale is awesome but #TitaniumBackup isn’t part of it. Boosted sales figures is cool but we offer support too. Sys tool != game icon wink

So sorry cheapos, you’ll have to pay full price.

Go either update Titanium or download it now, from the Play Store. You won’t regret when you’ll need to use some Titanium to save your ass one day.
