Wikipad now available for pre-order at GameStop
By now, most of us have all heard of the Wikipad, but if you haven’t, then get out from under your rock and open your eyes. Gamestop has started taking pre-orders for this $500 gaming tablet, which will be available October 31st.
Wikipad has released its final design and will need to come into its own. A tablet designed specifically for gaming may not be the best idea with systems like Ouya entering the market. There is already some stiff competition out there, like the Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy 10.1 and the new Kindle line.
Don’t be fooled though, as the Wikipad does pack some impressive specs, including a Tegra 3 processor, 720p IPS display, 1GB of RAM, microSD slot. The microSD slot is a bonus, since many existing tablets don’t include this. With that being said, I wonder how long it will take the community to hack this one.
I do think that the dock pictured above could have been designed to work with one of the already-successful Android tablets or possibly just made to be universal. Gamestop has decided, however, to back the tablet by negotiating deals to bring exclusive content to the system.
Sony has already given the device “Playstation Certification”, another announcement coming later this year will be the Gaikai streaming game service offered from Sony.
